Griffith Hughes named grapefruit (pink) the forbidden fruit of Barbados. It was discovered to be growing in Jamaica in 1789. Since then, it has been found to have many benefits, from clearing skin to rejuvenating dull hair. Grapefruit (Pink) is also known for its ability to uplift, energize, and support mental focus.

Chemical Constituents

Limonene

Limonene is a colorless liquid and is the major component in the oil of citrus fruit peels. It occurs more commonly in nature as the fragrance of oranges. It is a flavoring agent in food manufacturing, a renewables-based solvent in cleaning products, a fragrance ingredient for cosmetics products, and a fragrance in perfumery and personal care products. It is also used as a botanical insecticide and organic herbicide.

Myrcene

Myrcene, or β-myrcene, is a colorless oil that occurs widely in essential oils. It has a pleasant odor but is rarely used directly. Thus, it is more highly valued as an intermediate for preparing flavor and fragrance chemicals, such as menthol, citral, citronellol, citronellal, geraniol, nerol, and linalool.

α-Pinene

α-Pinene is an organic compound found in the oils of many species of coniferous trees, notably the pine. It is an anti-inflammatory and is likely antimicrobial. It is also known to aid memory and increase alertness.

Things to Remember When Using This Oil

Always dilute an essential oil when using it on the skin. This essential oil is unlikely to cause skin irritation when diluted properly.
