What is Blood Orange Essential Oil
Blood Orange Essential Oil is a thin, orange-colored oil extracted from the peels of Citrus sinensis through a cold press process. This method ensures the oil’s vibrant, citrusy, and tangy aroma remains intact, capturing the essence of the blood orange fruit in every drop. The Blood Orange trees, belonging to the Rutaceae family, are of medium size, featuring greenish-brown bark with spines adorning the branches, thriving under the sun’s warmth. The fruits, distinguishable from the common oranges found in groceries, are smaller in size and characterized by unique blots of red on their skin, hinting at the distinctive deep red flesh within.

Science Behind Blood Orange Essential Oil
Limonene
Limonene is a colorless liquid and is the major component in the oil of citrus fruit peels. It occurs more commonly in nature as the fragrance of oranges. It is a flavoring agent in food manufacturing, a renewables-based solvent in cleaning products, a fragrance ingredient for cosmetics products, and a fragrance in perfumery and personal care products. It is also used as a botanical insecticide and organic herbicide.
Myrcene
Myrcene, or β-myrcene, is a colorless oil that occurs widely in essential oils. It has a pleasant odor but is rarely used directly. Thus, it is more highly valued as an intermediate for preparing flavor and fragrance chemicals, such as menthol, citral, citronellol, citronellal, geraniol, nerol, and linalool.
Linalool
Linalool is found in many flowers and spice plants. It has multiple commercial applications, mostly based on its pleasant scent (floral, with a touch of spiciness). It is also an antimicrobial agent and has uses in manufacturing soaps, fragrances, food additives as flavors, household products, and insecticides.
