What’s the Science Behind This Oil?

How is Bergamot Essential Oil Made?
Bergamot Essential Oil is produced using a method called cold pressing, which gently extracts the oil from the peels of the Citrus bergamia fruit. As a result, the oil retains its delicate aroma and vibrant golden-green color, along with a thin, fluid consistency that makes it easy to work with.
What’s even more remarkable is the effort involved in its production—it takes about 1,000 citrus peels to yield just 30 ounces of this precious oil. This process highlights not only the care taken in its extraction but also why Bergamot Essential Oil is considered such a valuable and sought-after addition to any essential oil collection.
Chemical Constituents
Limonene
Limonene is a colorless liquid and is the major component in the oil of citrus fruit peels. It occurs more commonly in nature as the fragrance of oranges. Limonene is a flavoring agent in food manufacturing, a renewables-based solvent in cleaning products, a fragrance ingredient for cosmetics products, and a fragrance in perfumery and personal care products. It is also used as a botanical insecticide and organic herbicide.
Linalyl Acetate
Linalyl acetate is an organic compound found in many flowers and spice plants. It is one of the principal components of bergamot, clary sage, lavender, and lemon essential oils. Linalool is often present together with it and is a widely used fragrance. The chemical has a pleasant fruity odor reminiscent of bergamot mint oil.
Linalool
Linalool is a naturally occurring compound found in many flowers and spice plants. Known for its pleasant floral scent with a hint of spice, it’s widely used across various industries. Thanks to its appealing aroma, linalool is a common ingredient in soaps, fragrances, and food flavorings. In addition to its fragrance benefits, it also serves as an antimicrobial agent, making it valuable in household products and even insecticides.
