Eucalyptus Essential Oil is extracted from the leaves of the eucalyptus plant using the steam distillation method. In this process, steam is passed through the plant material to evaporate the essential oil, which is then collected in a separate container. It’s a pretty cool process, and the best part is that it preserves the oil’s natural aroma and therapeutic properties.

The Science Behind Eucalyptus Oil

Wondering how we know Eucalyptus Essential Oil is so good at what it does? Well, science! This oil is made up of natural chemicals known for doing certain things.

The main chemical constituents of Eucalyptus Essential Oil are:

1,8-Cineole

1,8-Cineole, more commonly known as Eucalyptol, is a monoterpenoid; a colorless liquid with a fresh, mint-like aroma and a spicy, cooling taste. Because of its pleasant, spicy aroma and taste, eucalyptol is used in various flavorings, fragrances, and cosmetics. It is also an ingredient in commercial mouthwashes and is used in traditional medicine as a cough suppressant.

α-Pinene

alpha-Pinene is an organic compound found in the oils of many species of coniferous trees, notably the pine. It is also found in the essential oil of rosemary and Satureja myrtifolia. The racemic mixture is present in some oils, such as eucalyptus and orange peel.

α-Pinene is an anti-inflammatory and is likely antimicrobial. It also aids memory and increases alertness.

Limonene

Limonene is a colorless liquid and is the major component in the oil of citrus fruit peels. It occurs more commonly in nature as the fragrance of oranges and is a flavoring agent in food manufacturing. It is also used as a renewables-based solvent in cleaning products.
