What is Freedom Cry?
Freedom Cry is a Sheboygan, Wisconsin-based organization that is working to end human trafficking in and around the State of Wisconsin. Freedom Cry started out as a group of concerned parents meeting at a coffee shop wanting to understand how to best protect their children from becoming victims of human trafficking. In 2017, Freedom Cry became a 501(c)(3) organization. To bring awareness in the community today, Freedom Cry does community presentations and awareness events, as well as a community art project called Hope’s Hearts in an effort to attain resources for those who need it most. They have helped hundreds of victims and their families heal and begin a new journey.
Freedom Cry requires all volunteers to use a trauma-informed approach to work directly with survivors and help them connect to trauma-recovery services. They also provide peer support and assistance to help survivors accomplish their personal and/or career goals.
Today, Freedom Cry is putting all of their time and effort into prayerfully opening and sustaining a therapeutic Safe Home. This safe home requires a professional staff and committed volunteers who are trained in trauma-informed care practices. The home would seek to network with therapists who could provide a variety of therapies. There are currently no homes in Sheboygan County that are offering a program like this. For the time being, Freedom Cry is partnering with organizations in different states and counties to find housing and living arrangements for victims of human trafficking.
