What’s in This Grout Cleaner with Baking Soda Recipe?
Baking Soda
Baking soda can unclog drains, clean tile and grout, clean ovens, deodorize carpets, polish copper, and clean tires. It will also help to remove the dirt and mold from your grout.
Vinegar
As many already know, vinegar is a popular ingredient for DIY cleaners. Vinegar is the greener way to clean and deodorize surfaces. It’s great for removing stains and buildup around your kitchen (particularly around your stove), cleaning your countertops (don’t use on natural stone), table surface, toilets, etc, and making homemade all-purpose cleaners.
Does vinegar damage grout? Vinegar alone can etch away at your grout if used alone. Baking soda will neutralize the acidity of the vinegar to protect grout lines. Vinegar and baking soda together create a powerful cleaning combination that will help you remove the stubborn stains even limescale from around your tiles.
Clean & Fresh Essential Oil Blend
The perfect blend of the outdoors and citrus, Simply Earth’s Clean & Fresh Essential Oil Blend was created to brighten your day. Clean & Fresh gives you the boost of energy you need to clean your home naturally.
Bamboo Toothbrush
This brush is included in our April Essential Oil Recipe Box.
We included this environmentally-friendly toothbrush in the box to use for cleaning your grout, but any toothbrush will work. The bristles of the bamboo toothbrush are just fine enough to get all those tough spots, and soft enough to avoid damaging your grout.

Grout Scrub Recipe
Grout Scrub
Ingredients
1 cup Baking Soda (approximate)
1 cup Vinegar (approximate)
20 drops Clean & Fresh Essential Oil Blend
Bamboo Toothbrush
Directions
- Add essential oil blend to vinegar. Use a washcloth or spray bottle to apply vinegar in grout lines. Depending on how much grout you are cleaning, you may need more or less vinegar. Allow the vinegar to sit for 5 minutes.
- Dip your toothbrush into the baking soda. Scrub through grout lines. This will neutralize the acidity of the vinegar and help clean the grout lines.
- Follow up your cleaning using a washcloth and hot water.
Notes
- You should only use this cleaner 1-2 times a year as the acidity of the vinegar will harm the grout with repeated use.
