How to Make Calendula Solar Infused Oil for Wound Healing

Have you heard of infused oils? If you love to cook, you’ve probably used them before. Infused oils are a common way to transfer the flavor and aroma from a fresh herb or spice to the oil. Since the herbs’ essence was transferred to the oil, it can last longer than the actual plant, which can dry easily.

In aromatherapy, infused oils are a popular way to make soaps or lotions. For this recipe, we will use infused oil to help heal your wounds. Calendula Flower is the key ingredient that makes this recipe effective.

Hi! Katie here, certified aromatherapist and creator of our Essential Oil Recipe Box, which includes this recipe this month.

What I love about infused oils is that they’re another way to add the beneficial properties of a plant to an oil. This oil can be used by itself to help heal wounds, soothe burns, and ease insect bites. You can also use it to replace a carrier oil in a recipe like the burn salve in this month’s box. Dual purpose for the win!

Calendula Flowers

These dried flowers do the magic. Calendula Flowers are so helpful in so many ways. They help heal wounds and repair damaged tissue. They also work to heal inflamed and cracked skin, burns, and insect bites.

If you are a breastfeeding mom and get cracked nipples, these flowers can also help you out. Don’t worry, they’re non toxic to babies.

Avocado Oil or Other Carrier Oil

A carrier oil is used to dilute the essential oils, making sure this recipe is safe to apply on your skin. It is also antibacterial and anti inflammatory.

A Clear, Sealable Jar

The purpose of using a clear jar for this recipe is to allow the sun to penetrate for solar infusion

  • 3/4 cup (approx.) Avocado Oil or Other Carrier Oil

  • Cheese Cloth or Fine Mesh Sieve
