At My Refuge House (MRH), they believe in the transformative power of love and care. Their mission is to provide a nurturing home for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and abuse, helping them reclaim their lives and futures. As we step into 2025, they are proud to celebrate the incredible journeys of more than 40 survivors who have found hope and healing within our walls.
A Warm Place to Heal
Founded by a compassionate group of individuals in a small Southern California church, My Refuge House began with a deep desire to meet the urgent needs of survivors. Inspired by Gary A. Haugen’s book “Terrify No More,” they took action to make a difference. Their story began in Cebu, Philippines—an area grappling with high trafficking rates due to its booming business and tourism sectors. Through dedicated fundraising efforts, they were able to build their first refuge for the victims, and their commitment to this cause has only grown stronger since.
Comprehensive Care Programs
At MRH, they offer comprehensive and therapeutic care designed to help survivors rebuild their lives. Their programs include:
Prevention
They actively partner with schools, organizations, and churches to provide preventive education through initiatives like “iSpeak: Break the Silence. Stop the Violence.” Their trainings and workshops educate students and teachers about the realities of trafficking and how to combat it.
Restoration
Healing takes time, and their in-house program provides survivors with the resources they need to complete their education, whether that’s finishing elementary, high school, or pursuing vocational training. They also have a transition program for older girls, ensuring they are fully equipped for their next chapter.
Reintegration
Their commitment doesn’t end when the girls leave MRH. They help develop personalized reintegration plans for each girl and her family, supporting them for two years as they transition back into their communities. This includes quarterly family fun days to foster healthy relationships and social connections.
Community Connections and Advocacy
As they look toward the future, their community outreach program continues to grow, focusing on prevention and advocacy. By engaging with local partners, they raise awareness and work toward a world where such exploitation no longer exists.
