Simple Deodorant Recipe for Everyday Use

Natural deodorant is a great first step towards a more natural lifestyle.

Every day, we apply products to our skin and must make informed choices about what we use. Many commercial deodorants contain synthetic ingredients that may not be the healthiest option for our bodies. I’m excited to share this Pioneer Deodorant Recipe with you! Taking control of the deodorant you use in a budget-friendly way ensures it is made from safe, natural ingredients.

By making your own deodorant, you’re taking charge of what goes on your skin and embracing a more sustainable approach to personal care. Let’s explore the steps to creating your own effective and delightful deodorant!

Why Use Natural Deodorant

Skin-Friendly Ingredients. Natural deodorants often utilize gentle plant-based ingredients, minimizing the chance of skin irritation and allergic reactions from harsh chemicals in commercial products.

Reduced Toxic Exposure. Choosing natural deodorant helps you avoid harmful substances like parabens, phthalates, and artificial fragrances, which can affect hormone balance and lead to health problems.

Eco-Friendly Choice. Natural deodorants in eco-friendly packaging, without synthetic chemicals, are a greener choice, reducing your carbon footprint.

Long-Lasting Freshness. Natural ingredients like baking soda and essential oils provide adequate odor protection without the harshness of artificial antiperspirants.

Customization Options. Ideally, creating your own deodorant lets you tailor scents and textures to match your style and needs!

What’s in This Deodorant Recipe

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is crucial in giving this deodorant a smooth, spreadable consistency, making application a breeze! It acts as an emollient, softening and moisturizing the skin, essential for maintaining a healthy underarm area. Additionally, coconut oil boasts natural cleansing properties that help you smell fresh throughout the day.

Beeswax

Beeswax is a wonderful addition to our Pioneer Deodorant Recipe. It serves as the key hardener that transforms the mixture into a delightful, balm-like consistency. While its primary use is as a thickener, beeswax also creates a protective layer on the skin, locking in moisture and shielding sensitive areas from environmental irritants.

Focus Essential Oil Blend

The Focus Essential Oil Blend is a vital component of our Pioneer Deodorant Recipe, not only for its delightful fresh scent but also for its remarkable natural cleansing properties. This blend typically includes Frankincense, Orange, Eucalyptus, and Cardamom Essential Oils, each contributing unique benefits.

Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli Essential Oil is renowned for its delightful, earthy aroma and powerful properties. It not only naturally deodorizes but also acts as an effective antimicrobial agent, helping to eliminate odor-causing bacteria on the skin. This essential oil is appreciated for its long-lasting scent, ensuring you feel fresh and confident throughout the day.

Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary Essential Oil is a powerhouse when it comes to natural deodorant formulation! Known for its invigorating and fresh scent, Rosemary also possesses remarkable detoxifying properties. This essential oil can help to cleanse and purify the skin, effectively removing impurities and preventing odor while promoting a healthy underarm environment.

Basil Essential Oil

Basil Essential Oil is known for its fresh, uplifting aroma and numerous beneficial properties. This essential oil is celebrated for its antimicrobial effects, helping to combat odor-causing bacteria and ensuring you stay fresh all day long. Moreover, Basil Oil is also appreciated for its skin-soothing properties, making it gentle on the skin while providing a burst of rejuvenating fragrance.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide is renowned for its soothing properties that help prevent irritation, which can sometimes be a concern with baking soda. Its unique ability to absorb moisture creates a clean, dry environment that naturally combats odors by inhibiting bacterial growth. This makes it an excellent choice for maintaining freshness throughout the day.

Note: Zinc oxide is a white powder, and while it offers wonderful benefits, it can create a white cast on the skin. Therefore, it’s a good idea to double-check in the mirror before heading out in a tank top to ensure you feel confident and comfortable!

Cornstarch

Cornstarch primarily contributes to the balm’s smooth consistency. It helps absorb moisture, and it can also be swapped with other starches, like arrowroot powder, for those seeking alternatives. Cornstarch is gentle on the skin, providing effective absorbing properties that help keep armpits dry and comfortable throughout the day.

Things to Remember When Using this Recipe

Always dilute an essential oil when using it on the skin. This essential oil recipe is unlikely to cause skin irritation when diluted properly. If the oil has oxidized (been left with the cap off for long periods of time,) it is more likely to cause skin irritation. Check out this dilution chart for diluting this essential oil properly.

Some essential oil recipes are not generally safe to use if you are pregnant. Consult your doctor prior to use.

This essential oil recipe is safe to use with kids aged 10+.

Pioneer Deodorant Recipe

Time: 10 mins
Est. Shelf Life: 12 months
Yield: 2.5 fl oz

Ingredients

  • FROM YOUR BOX
  • 3 Tbsp coconut oil (solid)

  • 1 Tbsp beeswax

  • 25 drops Focus Essential Oil Blend

  • 5 drops Patchouli Essential Oil

  • 2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

  • 2 drops Basil Essential Oil

  • 2 tsp zinc oxide

  • Deodorant tube

  • FROM YOUR HOME
  • 5 Tbsp cornstarch

Directions

  • Prep the bottom-fill deodorant tube by removing the 1” circle base plug from inside the tube. Set this base plug aside. By twisting the bottom wheel, make sure that the adjustable portion of the tube is all the way to the bottom. Check that the clear inner cap is in place inside the top of the white lid. Place the white lid on the tube. Turn the deodorant tube upside down on your surface so that the bottom is facing upward. Set aside.
  • In a double boiler or a microwave, using short intervals, melt the coconut oil and beeswax together.
  • Add essential oils and stir.
  • Stir in the zinc oxide and cornstarch. If your mixture starts to solidify as you stir, gently reheat it until just melted to bring it back to a liquid consistency.
  • Pour the mixture into the deodorant tube through the bottom hole. This recipe is enough for this tube, so do not overfill. Insert the 1” circle plug into the 1” circle hole at the bottom of the tube. Place the deodorant tube upside down in the fridge to cool. Don’t forget to label it!

  • Baking soda is an excellent natural deodorizer often used in natural deodorant products, but it can irritate the skin. You can add 1 tsp in step 4 with the other dry ingredients for extra deodorizing power.
  • Rose kaolin clay is also a great addition to this recipe! Add 1 tsp in step 4 with the other dry ingredients. Be sure to test to ensure it doesn’t stain your clothing.

How To Use Natural Deodorant

Using your homemade natural deodorant is a breeze, thanks to the easy-to-use, twist-up function of the tube. Apply a small amount once in the morning under each clean, dry underarm to kickstart your day fresh. If you are in a hot environment or working out, feel free to reapply as needed for added confidence throughout the day. Remember, a little goes a long way, so twist up just enough to keep your underarms dry and odor-free! Enjoy the peace of mind with natural ingredients while staying fresh and invigorated.
