How to Make A Beauty Balm for That Natural Glow

There’s something undeniably magical about beauty products that come straight from nature—no harsh chemicals, no mystery ingredients, just pure goodness.

That’s exactly why natural beauty balms have been stealing the spotlight lately. They’re simple, nourishing, and give your skin that effortlessly radiant glow we all crave. Plus, who doesn’t love a little DIY magic to make self-care feel extra special?

Enter grapefruit—not just a breakfast star, but a skincare superstar. This zesty fruit is packed with antioxidants and natural oils that gently refresh your skin while giving it a juicy, healthy pop of color.

So what’s the real magic here? This Grapefruit Beauty Balm isn’t just about a pretty tint (though it nails that too). It’s a triple threat: a splash of natural color, deep hydration, and a glowing finish all rolled into one easy-to-make balm. Perfect for your lips, cheeks, or whenever you want to feel fresh and radiant, the way nature intended.

What’s in This Beauty Balm Recipe?

🌿 DIY Mineral Makeup Base

This finely milled Mineral Makeup Base acts like the perfect blank canvas for your pigments. It helps the colors blend seamlessly while giving your balm a smooth, velvety texture that feels light on your skin. Plus, it’s gentle and breathable, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

🌸 Fuchsia Mica Powder

Packed with natural shimmer and a bright pink hue, Fuchsia Mica Powder adds a fresh, radiant flush to your cheeks and lips. It mimics that juicy grapefruit glow — vibrant yet soft — to give you a naturally lifted, youthful look without any synthetic dyes.

🔥 Red Iron Oxide

Just a tiny pinch of this earthy pigment helps deepen the color, balancing the brightness of the fuchsia with a warm, natural tone. Red Iron Oxide adds dimension and richness, making the tint flattering on all skin tones while keeping the shade grounded and wearable.

🥥 Fractionated Coconut Oil

Lightweight and silky, Fractionated Coconut Oil nourishes your skin without leaving any greasy residue. It’s excellent for ensuring the balm spreads easily and absorbs quickly, giving your skin a soft, hydrated finish that feels fresh and comfortable all day.

🧈 Coconut Oil (Solid)

This more substantial Coconut Oil is packed with moisturizing properties that help repair and protect your skin’s barrier. It also provides the creamy texture needed to keep the balm solid yet easily blendable, so your tinted glow lasts longer and feels luxurious.

🐝 Beeswax

Beeswax is the secret to the balm’s perfect consistency and staying power. It forms a gentle protective layer that locks in moisture, shields your skin from environmental stressors, and gives the balm its smooth, spreadable texture — think of it as nature’s little beauty shield.

🍊 Grapefruit (Pink) Essential Oil

More than just a fresh, uplifting scent, Grapefruit Essential Oil is rich in antioxidants that help brighten dull skin and promote a healthy glow. It adds a subtle citrus zing to your balm, making every application feel refreshing and invigorating—like a mini spa moment.

Grapefruit Beauty Balm Recipe

Grapefruit Beauty Balm Recipe

Ingredients

  • 📦 FROM YOUR BOX
  • 1/2 tsp DIY Mineral Makeup Base

  • 1/8 tsp Fuchsia Mica Powder

  • 1 half smidgen (1/64 tsp) Red Iron Oxide

  • 1/4 tsp Fractionated Coconut Oil

  • 1/4 tsp Beeswax

  • 1 tsp Coconut Oil (Solid)

  • 1 drop Grapefruit (Pink) Essential Oil

  • Square Cosmetic Tin

  • 🏠 FROM YOUR HOME
  • Face mask

Directions

  • In a small bowl, thoroughly blend together the Mineral Makeup Base, Mica Powder, and Red Iron Oxide until you reach one uniform color with no clumps*. Wear a face mask during this step to avoid inhaling any airborne particles while mixing.
  • In a double boiler (or in the microwave using short intervals), melt together the Fractionated Coconut Oil, Coconut Oil (Solid), and Beeswax. Stir intermittently.
  • Once just melted, add the essential oil and stir.
  • Add the pigment mixture to the oil mixture. Stir until thoroughly combined.
  • Pour mixture into the tin (reheat the mixture if necessary to pour smoothly) and allow it to cool completely.
  • To use, apply to lips and cheeks and blend into the skin for a beautiful and natural-looking blush.

Notes

  • If you love making DIY makeup, I recommend investing in an inexpensive coffee grinder and using that to blend your makeup bases. A mortar and pestle or a silicone spatula in a bowl also work to thoroughly mix your pigments and powders.
  • There are mini measuring spoons that can be used to measure out volumes like “smidge” and “pinch” that I like to use rather than estimating when making DIY makeup.
  • Grapefruit Essential Oil can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight but is unlikely to have this effect at the dilution rate we use in this recipe.

FAQs & Final Tips

Can I substitute ingredients?
Absolutely! While the recipe is carefully balanced for texture and color, feel free to swap out oils or waxes if needed. For example, shea butter or cocoa butter can replace coconut oil for a richer balm, and candelilla wax works well as a vegan alternative to beeswax. Just keep in mind that substitutions might change the texture or scent slightly.

Shelf life and storage
Store your Grapefruit Beauty Balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Kept in its tin and sealed properly, it should last about 3 to 6 months. If you notice any changes in smell, texture, or color, it’s best to make a fresh batch.

📏 Can I scale up the recipe?
Yes! This recipe scales well—just multiply the ingredient amounts by how much balm you want to make. When scaling, mix pigments thoroughly to maintain an even color and melt your oils and wax slowly to keep the texture consistent.
