What’s in This Sugar Scrub Recipe?
Sugar
Sugar acts as a natural exfoliant, diligently working to slough off dead skin cells and reveal the radiant skin beneath. I like to use granulated sugar for gentle exfoliation, but the beauty of this DIY scrub is that any sugar can be utilized based on your skin’s needs. For a more robust exfoliation, particularly for rougher areas like the bottoms of the feet, coarser sugar, such as cane sugar, will provide a stronger exfoliating effect.
Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil is an exceptional moisturizer, making it an essential component of this DIY sugar scrub. This natural oil penetrates deep into the skin, providing intense hydration and leaving your skin feeling soft, smooth, and nourished.
Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is a rich, moisturizing ingredient that nourishes your DIY sugar scrub. This natural butter is renowned for deeply hydrating the skin, ensuring it remains supple and smooth. A bonus of using cocoa butter is the luxurious, chocolatey aroma, transforming your skincare routine into a deliciously indulgent experience.
Fractionated Coconut Oil
Fractionated Coconut Oil softens the consistency of the sugar scrub, making it easier to apply evenly across the skin. Unlike regular coconut oil, this variant remains liquid at room temperature, providing a lighter, non-greasy feel. It retains the moisturizing properties of traditional coconut oil, ensuring that your skin stays soft and hydrated after exfoliation.
Fir Needle Essential Oil
Fir Needle Essential Oil introduces an uplifting evergreen aroma to your DIY sugar scrub, reminiscent of pine forests and fresh mountain air. This essential oil invigorates your senses and centers your mind and body, creating a balanced and calming effect during your skincare routine.
Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot Essential Oil infuses your DIY sugar scrub with a citrusy and floral aroma that is calming and uplifting. Known for its mood-enhancing properties, it helps to reduce stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
*Bergamot Essential Oil can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, but this is unlikely to occur in bath recipes like this one since the product is rinsed off the skin.
Sleepy Essential Oil Blend
Sleepy Essential Oil Blend brings a fruity and sweet aroma to your DIY sugar scrub, perfect for winding down after a busy day. This blend is designed to promote rest and relaxation, helping to prepare your mind and body for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Rose Petals
Roughly torn, Rose Petals provide a gentle texture that complements the sugar, enhancing the overall exfoliating experience. Beyond their physical benefits, rose petals infuse your scrub with a light, enchanting rose aroma.
Mica Powder (optional) 🛒
Mica Powder adds a beautiful tint to the product, giving a touch of visual appeal that makes your scrub even more enjoyable. I love to tint my sugar scrub red to complement the rose petals, giving it a charming and cohesive aesthetic. Whether you choose a subtle shimmer or a bold hue, mica powder allows you to express your creativity and personalize your scrub to your liking.
