Lovely Loofah Melt & Pour Soap Recipe

Lovely Loofah Melt & Pour Soap Recipe

Ingredients

  • 📦 FROM YOUR BOX
  • 12 Cavity Round Silicone Mold

  • 12 Loofah Rounds

  • 1 oz Perfumer’s Alcohol (with spray nozzle)

  • 20 oz (~2/3 block) Glycerin Melt and Pour Soap Base

  • 100 drops (1 tsp) Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

  • 200 drops (2 tsp) Blood Orange Essential Oil

  • 1/4 tsp Pearl Mica Powder

  • 1/4 tsp Fuchsia Mica Powder

  • 1/4 tsp Tiger Orange Mica Powder

  • 12 Circle Soap Wraps

  • 🏠 FROM YOUR HOME
  • 3 medium heat-proof pitchers (liquid measuring cups, glasses, or similar tools)

  • Scissors

  • Tape

Directions

  • Place 1 piece of loofah into each cavity of the mold. Some loofah pieces may be slightly too large for the mold. Use sharp scissors (or a serrated knife) to trim the loofah pieces to fit.
  • Use scissors to trim the straw of the spray nozzle to fit the Perfumer’s Alcohol bottle. Attach the spray nozzle to the bottle. Spray the prepared mold with Perfumer’s Alcohol. Set the mold and the spray aside.
  • Cut and weigh 20 oz of soap base or cut the soap base into thirds. Place one-third of the soap back into the soap’s original packaging for future DIY soap projects. Cut the remaining 20 oz (two-thirds) of soap into 1-inch cubes.
  • Melt the soap in a double boiler (or in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds.)
  • Once the soap has just melted, remove it from the heat. Add the essential oil and stir.
  • Divide the soap into three pitchers (or similar containers). In each pitcher, add one shade of mica powder and stir until each soap is one uniform color (you should end up with one pitcher of fuchsia soap, one pitcher of tiger orange soap, and one pitcher of pearl white soap).
  • Then, simultaneously, pour soap from two pitchers into a single cavity of the mold (so you end up with two colors of soap swirled together in the mold). Alternate between the three pitchers of soap until each cavity is filled. Remelt the soap as needed to pour. If you end up with any extra soap, pour the extra soap into a separate mold or container to remelt for future projects.
  • Spritz the soap with Perfumer’s Alcohol to clear any bubbles that have floated to the surface of the soap.
  • Allow the soap to cool and set. Once the soap has set, remove it from the mold.
  • To package the soap, place the soap in the center of the Soap Wrap and wrap it around it. The liner won’t entirely cover the entire soap. Secure the Paper Liner by placing a piece of tape across the soap. Finish the soap by placing the label over the small gap.
  • Wet the skin and apply the soap to cleanse and exfoliate.

tips from katie

  • Since the mold is flexible, it’s possible to smush the loofah pieces into the mold. This causes the mold to bulge on the sides and will create different-sized soaps that don’t work as well with the paper packaging included with the kit, so I recommend trimming the sponges as needed rather than forcing them into the mold.
  • It’s easy to overheat melt-and-pour soap in the microwave. Watch the soap as you melt it—you want to avoid it bubbling up the sides. Overheated melt-and-pour soap will be cloudy and have a rough texture. It will still work like soap but will have a more rustic appearance.
  • The recipe instructions tell you to put the loofah sponges in first. But, if you want, you can put them in last after filling each cavity ~1/2 full. This gives you more control over how the loofahs appear in the final soaps. For example, you can hide the loofah inside the soap or place it so that more of it sticks up.

Creative Customization Ideas

Incorporate Natural Elements: Enhance your soap with dried flowers, coffee grounds, or soothing herbs to add texture, natural exfoliation, and a calming touch of nature. These elements look beautiful and provide gentle benefits for the skin.

Play with Colors and Scents: Use natural colorants like mica powders or activated charcoal to create vibrant and eye-catching designs. Pair these with a blend of essential oils to craft unique fragrances, such as uplifting citrus-eucalyptus or calming lavender-vanilla, to make your soaps extra special.

Get Creative with Molds and Embellishments: Experiment with fun geometric or seasonal molds to make your soap unique. Add decorative embellishments, pressed flowers, or even biodegradable glitter to create a standout look that’s as artistic as it is functional.

Experiment with Textures and Layers: Use tools or techniques to design intricate surface patterns and play with layering to add depth. Try transparent layers with suspended flowers, colorful accents, or swirling patterns for a visually stunning soap.

Personalized Touches: Add a heartfelt, personal element to your soap using stamps for initials, intricate designs, or inspiring messages. These small details can make each bar feel special, unique, and perfect for gifting.

Safety First: Essential Oil Handling Tips

Always Use Diluted Oils

Always dilute an essential oil when using it on the skin. This essential oil recipe is unlikely to cause skin irritation when diluted properly. If the oil has oxidized (been left with the cap off for long periods of time), it is more likely to cause skin irritation. Check out this dilution chart for diluting this essential oil properly.

Essential Oils Aren’t Safe For Everyone

When using essential oils around children, pregnant women, and pets, caution should be taken.
