What Are Shower Steamers?

Have you heard of shower steamers? Perhaps you know them by one of their many other names – shower bombs, shower fizzies, shower tablets, or shower melts. No matter what you call them, these little wonders can transform a regular shower into a soothing, aromatic spa experience. Once they come into contact with water, the steamers release fragrant essential oils that mix with the warm steam. The result is an aromatherapeutic shower that can soothe stress, congestion, and even headaches.

Bath Bombs vs. Shower Steamers

Both bath bombs and shower steamers offer unique benefits, but there are important differences to consider. Bath bombs transform your bathwater into a colorful, nourishing oasis. Rich in moisturizing oils, bath bombs provide a relaxing and soothing experience for your skin. Shower steamers, on the other hand, are meant for aromatherapy. The aroma from the essential oils rise with the shower steam and provides benefits as you inhale. However, it’s important to note that shower steamers should not directly touch your skin, as they are highly concentrated.

Ultimately, the choice comes down to what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a relaxing, skin-soothing experience, go for a bath bomb. For aromatherapy purposes, opt for a shower steamer.

What’s in This Shower Steamer Recipe?

Coconut Oil (Solid)

One essential ingredient that you shouldn’t overlook is Solid Coconut Oil. It’s perfect for combining all the dry ingredients together and making your recipe more compact.

Menthol Crystals

If you’re looking for a refreshing morning shower, you might want to try adding menthol crystals to your shower steamer recipe. The cooling effect of menthol can help clear up congested sinuses and perk you up for a brand-new day. With their powerful aroma, these tiny crystals can transform an ordinary shower into a spa-like experience. Plus, menthol crystals are easy to use and affordable, making them a popular ingredient in many homemade bath and body products.

Breathe Easy Shower Steamer

Breathe Easy Shower Steamer Recipe

Time: 5 min + dry time
Dilution Rate: 2%
Estimated Shelf Life: 1 year
Yield: 8 shower steamers

Ingredients

  • FROM YOUR BOX
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil (solid)

  • 1 tsp menthol crystals

  • 10 drops Breathe Easy Essential Oil Blend

  • FROM YOUR HOME
  • ½ cup baking soda

  • Silicone mold or ice cube tray

Directions

  • In a double boiler (or microwave using short intervals), heat the solid coconut oil until just melted.
  • Remove from heat, add menthol crystals, and stir to melt.
  • Add essential oils and stir to mix.
  • Add baking soda and stir thoroughly until the mixture has a dough-like consistency.
  • Press contents into a mold and allow the ingredients to totally dry (~24 hours). About 1 Tbsp per cavity works well, but you can add more or less according to your preference.
  • To use, remove from the mold and place it in the bottom of the shower near the drain. Use caution as this recipe can make your shower slippery. The hot water will help the oil diffuse into the air to support easy breathing.
