What’s the Science Behind This Oil?

How is Bergamot Essential Oil Made?

This essential oil is produced through a process known as cold pressing, which involves extracting the oil from the peels of citrus bergamia. The resulting oil is a beautiful golden-green color with a thin, fluid consistency. Even more impressive is that it takes approximately 1,000 peels to produce just 30 ounces of this precious oil. This shows how valuable and sought-after Bergamot Essential Oil truly is.

Chemical Constituents

Limonene

Limonene is a significant component in the oil of citrus fruit peels. It occurs more commonly in nature as the fragrance of oranges is a flavoring agent in food manufacturing. It is also used as a renewables-based solvent in cleaning products, as a dietary supplement, and as a fragrance ingredient for cosmetics. It is also used as a botanical insecticide and organic herbicide.

Linalyl Acetate

Linalyl acetate, an organic compound, is found in many flowers and spice plants. It is one of the principal components of bergamot and lavender essential oils. It often occurs together with linalool. It is a widely used fragrance with a pleasant, fruity aroma.

Linalool

Linalool is found in many flowers and spice plants. It has multiple commercial applications, primarily based on its pleasant scent (floral, with a touch of spiciness). In plants, it is a metabolite, a volatile oil component, an antimicrobial agent, and an aroma compound. It also has uses in manufacturing soaps, fragrances, food additives as flavors, household products, and insecticides.
