What’s in This Honeyed Haven Candles Recipe?

Beeswax Sheets

Beeswax Sheets are the heart of this candle recipe. As a natural, non-toxic wax, beeswax is known for its clean-burning qualities, producing very little soot and offering a warm, golden glow. Its smooth texture makes it ideal for hand-rolling into candles without the need for melting or pouring. Beyond appearance, the beeswax helps create a calming ambience, making your space feel more grounded and inviting.

Cotton Wick

Cotton Wick serves as the flame source of your candle. It’s made from natural cotton fiber and is selected specifically for its compatibility with beeswax. The wick is trimmed and centered during the rolling process to ensure a steady, even burn. Proper wick placement also supports a safer candle experience by minimizing flickering and promoting clean combustion.

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot Essential Oil adds a light, citrus-like fragrance to the surface of the beeswax sheet. Known for its crisp and refreshing aroma, Bergamot is commonly used in candle-making to help create a more pleasant-smelling environment. In this recipe, only a single drop is used and applied indirectly via a cotton ball, strictly for its aromatic value—not for skin application or therapeutic purposes.

Timber Essential Oil Blend

Timber Essential Oil Blend introduces a deeper, woodsy scent that balances the brightness of citrus with earthy tones. This essential oil blend contributes a grounding element to the candle’s overall aroma, enhancing its warmth and complexity. As with all oils in this recipe, Timber is used in minimal quantity and applied externally to the wax for fragrance only—not intended for direct contact or health-related claims.

Citronella Essential Oil

Citronella Essential Oil delivers a fresh, citrus-forward note that complements both the Bergamot and Timber oils. Frequently found in candles for its sharp, clean scent, Citronella contributes to a refreshing aromatic experience. Though often associated with outdoor use, in this recipe it is included strictly to enhance scent and atmosphere—not to repel insects or for any functional use beyond fragrance.

Cotton Ball

A Cotton Ball is used as a safe and effective tool to apply the essential oils to the surface of the beeswax. Rather than adding the oils directly by hand, the cotton ball allows for even distribution across the sheet while preventing direct contact with your skin. This method ensures that the candle maintains a light, balanced scent and supports safe handling of the essential oils during the crafting process.

Candle Holders

Candle Holders are a necessary part of using beeswax sheet candles safely. Because these hand-rolled candles are lightweight and may not stand firmly on their own, a sturdy holder provides the stability needed to keep the candle upright while it burns. Candle holders also help contain heat and wax, making them an important safety feature whenever the candle is in use.

How to Make Your Own
Clean-Burning Beeswax Candles

Ingredients

  • FROM YOUR BOX
  • 3 Beeswax Sheets

  • Cotton Wick

  • 1 drop Timber Essential Oil Blend

  • 1 drop Bergamot Essential Oil

  • 1 drop Citronella Essential Oil

  • FROM YOUR HOME
  • Cotton ball

  • Candle holder(s)

Directions

  • Lay one Beeswax Sheet flat on a clean, stable surface. To lightly scent your candle, drop the essential oils onto a cotton ball. Gently dab the cotton ball across the surface of the beeswax to distribute the scent evenly.
  • Place the Cotton Wick along the long side of the beeswax sheet, making sure it’s aligned with the edge. Trim the wick so that it’s about ¼ inch longer than the Beeswax Sheet on both ends. This extra length ensures the wick is properly secured in the candle.
  • Carefully fold the edge of the Beeswax Sheet over the wick, starting the rolling process. If the beeswax cracks while you fold, don’t worry! Gently warm the wax with your hands or a blow dryer on a low setting to soften it. Use your fingers to pinch and smooth the cracks closed.
  • Continue rolling the beeswax as evenly as possible, making sure the wick stays centered. Avoid touching the essential oil with your hand as you roll it. Once you reach the end of the sheet, heat the seam briefly with your fingers or a blow dryer to help seal the candle. Press the seam gently to ensure it sticks. Then, press the excess wick at the bottom of the candle against the base to secure it.
  • Repeat steps 1-4 with the other two sheets of beeswax to create 3 total candles.
  • To use, place your candle in a candle holder. You may need to gently press the candle into the holder to ensure it stays in place. Light the wick and enjoy! Beeswax sheet candles typically have a shorter burn time compared to traditional candles due to their natural composition and size. While they may burn faster, they provide a beautiful, clean burn with a warm, natural glow and are perfect for quick, cozy moments or decorative use. Always burn within sight, away from flammable materials, and keep the candle out of reach of children and pets.
