How to Use the Mold + DIY Recipe for Fizzy Shower Steamers
One of the creative ways to use the Simply Earth mold is to craft Fizzy Shower Steamers. They transform your shower into a relaxing spa experience, releasing soothing essential oil aromas with water flow. Follow this simple recipe to create three scent combinations:
Effortless DIY Soap Making with the 12-Cavity Silicone Mold
Ingredients
1/2 cup Citric Acid
3/4 cup Natrasorb (or cornstarch)
1/3 cup Coconut Oil (solid)
Mica Powders (assorted colors, optional)
Simply Earth 12-Cavity Round Soap Mold
1 cup Baking Soda
- SCENT 1:
10 drops Lime Essential Oil
4 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- SCENT 2:
10 drops Copaiba Essential Oil
4 drops Neroli Essential Oil
- SCENT 3:
8 drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil
6 drops Blood Orange Essential Oil
Directions
- In a medium bowl, mix together baking soda, citric acid, and Natrasorb and stir.
- In a small bowl melt the Coconut Oil (~30 seconds in the microwave). Add the Coconut Oil to the dry ingredients and stir until thoroughly combined. Squeeze the mixture in your hand and then release. If the mixture holds its shape, continue to the next step. If the mixture crumbles, add more Coconut Oil (or a liquid carrier oil) and stir until the mixture holds its shape as described.
- Divide the mixture into three different bowls (it’s okay to eyeball it). To each bowl, add one essential oil combination and stir until thoroughly combined.
- To each bowl, add a small amount (~1/4 tsp) of mica powder (optional) and stir until evenly combined. Add more mica powder until you reach your desired color. I like to add a different color to each scent combination.
- Pack the steamer mixture into the mold.
- Place the steamers in the fridge to set (1-2 hours).
- Gently remove the steamers from the mold. Store in a sealed container.
- To use, place 1 shower steamer in the base of the shower. The water from the shower will cause the steamer to break apart and release the aroma of the essential oils.
Notes
- Tip: Natrasorb from Simply Earth or cornstarch (or other similar starch) from your kitchen can be used for this recipe. Both will act as a filler to slow down the reaction between citric acid and baking soda. However, Natrasorb will pack better than cornstarch into the mold. If crumbly shower steamers (or crumbly bath bombs) is a recurring struggle in your DIY journey, Natrasorb could solve that issue.
- Feel free to use whatever essential oil combinations you’d like for your shower steamers. This recipe is a 3% dilution rate. So if you divide this recipe into 3 different scent combinations like this, each scent combination should total 14 drops. The entire batch (all 12 shower steamers) should add up to 42 drops. Keep in mind that some essential oils have special dilution rates and you may need to adjust the recipe if you are using an essential oil with a special dilution rate.
Safety Tips for Soap and DIY Projects
While using the mold is straightforward, here are some general safety tips to keep in mind when working with DIY bath and body products:
- Use essential oils safely. Some oils may have specific dilution rates or safety precautions.
- Always store your DIY creations in a cool, dry place within a sealed container to maintain freshness.
- Ensure you thoroughly wash and dry your mold after each use to preserve its quality.
