What’s Makeup Primer?
A makeup primer is your go-to solution for keeping your makeup intact throughout the day. It acts as an introductory base layer, creating a smooth canvas for your makeup application and a protective barrier between your skin and cosmetics.
Think of it as the ultimate smoothing agent, working its magic to even out your skin texture and pave the way for your foundation and other makeup products to blend and adhere effortlessly. By minimizing the appearance of pores and fine lines, a primer sets the stage for a picture-perfect finish, reducing the likelihood of streaks.
In essence, a makeup primer is your best-kept secret for achieving a flawless look that lasts.
What’s in This DIY Makeup Primer Recipe?
Coconut Oil (Solid)
In crafting your DIY makeup primer, one of the star ingredients you’ll want to include is Solid Coconut Oil. Renowned for its luxurious, moisturizing properties, Solid Coconut Oil is the foundation for a primer that provides a smooth, solid consistency and deeply nourishes and hydrates the skin. Its solid-state adds structure to the primer, ensuring a velvety application that primes the skin for flawless makeup wear.
Almond Oil
This exceptional ingredient is celebrated for its moisturizing ability, delicately nourishing the skin with a light touch. Almond Oil‘s unique blend of emollient properties makes it an ideal candidate for your DIY primer, offering moisturization without weighing down the skin. It effortlessly absorbs, leaving behind a light sensation that primes your skin for a seamless makeup application.
Beeswax
Beeswax plays a pivotal role in contributing to the solid consistency of your primer recipe. This ingredient can lend structure and stability to beauty formulations, ensuring your DIY primer maintains its desired solid form. It also boasts exceptional moisturizing and soothing properties, locking in hydration and leaving your skin supple and nourished.
Geranium Essential Oil
In creating a nurturing DIY makeup primer, look no further than the exceptional properties of Geranium Essential Oil. The tightening effect of Geranium Oil helps impart a rejuvenated, firmer appearance to the skin, contributing to a more refined canvas for makeup application. Its soothing properties work wonders in calming the skin, while its redness-reducing prowess adds a touch of radiance to your complexion.
Copaiba Essential Oil
Consider incorporating Copaiba Essential Oil into your DIY makeup primer for its remarkable blemish-reducing properties. This natural gem enriches your primer with its skin-nurturing benefits and contributes to a clearer, more radiant complexion.

Things to Remember When Using This Recipe
Always dilute an essential oil when using it on the skin. This essential oil recipe is unlikely to cause skin irritation when diluted properly. If the oil has oxidized (been left with the cap off for long periods of time,) it is more likely to cause skin irritation. Check out this dilution chart for diluting this essential oil properly.

Tips from katie
- If you have acne-prone skin, I recommend swapping the coconut oil with mango butter or using this recipe on dry skin areas rather than on the face.
- If you have oily skin, swap the coconut oil for mango butter. Almond oil is relatively light, but if it feels greasy on your skin, you can try using jojoba oil or our serum base in its place.
How to Apply This DIY Makeup Primer
After your cleansing and moisturizing routine, apply the Makeup Priming Butter. Warm a small amount of the primer gently between your hands, and then smooth it onto your skin delicately. Pay special attention to your cheeks and forehead. This simple yet effective application method ensures that your skin receives the full benefits of the primer, setting the stage for a flawless makeup experience.
How to Properly Store This Make Primer Recipe
To ensure your DIY makeup primer stays at its best, consider storing it in a metal tin or glass jar with a secure screw-top lid, effectively keeping out excess air and preserving its integrity. A plastic jar or tub can be an alternative storage option without glass jars.
It’s crucial to shield your primer from direct sunlight, as excessive heat can lead to melting, compromising its effectiveness on your skin. By safeguarding it from light and heat, you’re taking the necessary steps to maintain the potency of your primer, ensuring that it continues to provide the optimal benefits for your skincare routine.
